From a balcony of the Auberge Anse aux Anglais a holidaying SPES e-vocational teacher was able to monitor an informal and fun-learning hands-on computer interactive e-lesson through a satellite radio for a group of local kids who joyfully enjoyed using this multimedia interactive e-learning. Boys and girls took turns at controlling the computer mouse with great glee. The Rodrigues Facilitators also participated actively at this simultaneous satellite interactive diffusion which was only a preliminary test between Rodrigues and Mauritius informatic site centres. W hope to be able to develop regular connectivity with possibly the Frere Remy Centre and other NGOs as from the year 2005, donor funding permitting.

A team of SPES e-vocational Teacher Trainers manned, monitored and animated the SPES datacasting of an e-vocational lesson based on illustrations of new ways of fun-learning. This team of teachers also commented and replied in viva voce to the Rodrigues and Triolet Teachers and communicated also through typed chatting replies. The slide show illustrated well the satellite CLASS system teaching possibilities of communicating using voice, graphics, photos and music. The SPES team used for comparison sake the same e-vocational lesson it had already diffused, also through AfriStar satellite, on 14th September 04 to four Mauritian community-based sites that were linked simultaneously to the UNESCO/Dakar “Atelier sur l’Enseignement a Distance” for participants from 14 Francophone countries. The SPES teachers were all smiles, as the response from Rodrigues and Triolet village had been very stimulating and the WorldSpace Toulouse diffusion crystal clear. To be noted that SPES has integrated ecological solar mobile panels to be able to operate a computer laptop, a TV and e-tools to reach out to areas deprived of electricity.

A visiting SPES e-vocational teacher monitored the satellite lesson the theme of which was on the enriching tropical papaya uses. The participating group of teachers and teenager pupils were very attentive and valuable open discussions ensued on our new ways of teaching crafts, health food cooking, ecological planting and recycling of Papaya leaves for creating hand-made exclusive designer crafts and to promote an e-learning entrepreneurial spirit and eventual internal and export e-trade.

NGO SPES founded in 1967 has37 years of vocational training experience and has accrued diversified findings on successful testing of several traditional and ICT Tuition methodologies has drawn conclusion that the CLASS system via WorldSpace Satellites/Toulouse and Washington DC is most user-friendly and cost-effective and well liked by kids and specialized teachers for children with learning difficulties.

Thus, at SPES we sincerely hope to be able to play an active part in Poverty Reduction through Bridging the Digital Gap with our e-learning vocational lessons, which can be easily adapted to most Developing Countries including small Islands. The diffusion of the modular e-lessons of the NGO SPES Pluri-lingual and Multi-literacy Global Village Project, now only depends on Decision-makers and potential Donors with an e-vision also for the rapid educational progress of vulnerable needy children.
