RESEARCH CENTRE FOR ISLAMIC HISTORY, ART AND CULTURE |
CENTRE DE RECHERCHES SUR L'HISTOIRE, L'ART ET LA CULTURE ISLAMIQUES |
From 1990 onwards, IRCICA has devoted considerable efforts towards the development of crafts in OIC countries. In this concern, the Centre undertook a comprehensive program to promote the handicrafts of the Muslim World and their revival, preservation and development through international cooperation. Craft-making is an important economic activity. It represents a means for generating income and offers job opportunities without making use of a large capital, encourages culture and tourism of every country, increases the income of foreign currency and creates new market opportunities.
IRCICA aims, within this program, to focus on specified subjects which are faced with the danger of disappearance in most countries of the Muslim World, caused mainly by the major use of machinery, appearance of machine-made products in big quantities, the hard living standards which push the artisan to leave his traditional craft sector for working in factories, lack of funding, decline of the education and training systems, difficulty in marketing the handicraft products, etc. |
